Local Notes: Precarious 50 tonne rock secured, senior citizens outing and more from Passage East

After many months of campaigning works have been carried out by contractors on behalf of Lord Waterford to secure the loose rock overhanging the scenic village of Passage East.
After many months of campaigning by local Independent Councillor Declan Barry works were carried out by contractors on behalf of Lord Waterford to secure the loose rock overhanging the scenic village of Passage East.
Cllr Barry has been raising this issue for the past six months and handed in a petition to Waterford Council requesting that works be carried out to replace one of two chains that had given way. On Tuesday last, July 1, a new steel rope was put in place allaying locals' fears of an impending catastrophe.
This rock is estimated to be more than 50 tonnes in weight and is perched precariously overhanging quite a large section of this picturesque fishing village.
"I initially brought this to the attention of WCCC and was informed, as I already knew, that it was the responsibility of Lord Waterford as he is the owner of both hills overlooking Passage East," stated Cllr Barry. "I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Lord Waterford for undertaking these essential works on behalf of our Community."
The Senior Citizens Summer outing was a most enjoyable day on Saturday, June 28. There were 46 on the bus to Wexford for shopping and more. Then the bus returned to "The Woodlands" to see the second half of the Waterford Minors win over Clare in the All-Ireland final at around 5.45pm. Here 60 sat down to the beautiful meal served by the staff at the Woodlands and then we waited to welcome home the All Ireland Minor Champions at the "Woodlands" so a great day to remember for all with the win for Waterford minors. Well done to the organising committee who provide such trips for our Senior Citizens and lots more also.
