A special community event aimed at supporting older people will take place on Friday, August 8, at 1pm in the Riverstown Community Centre, Tramore (X91 F2AH). Organised by Alone, a national organisation that supports older people to age at home, the event promises a free, seated gathering where attendees can enjoy tea and coffee, and gain valuable information about the services and support available to them. The event will feature a free chat with Alone representative Andrea Sierra Lopez, who will be on hand to speak with attendees and provide guidance on a variety of issues that older individuals may face. Those over 60 can learn about: support and befriending services; telephone support; housing issues and grant applications; financial concerns, access to health services and assistance with hospital discharge. This event is being generously sponsored by Revive Tramore and is open to everyone in the community. All are welcome to attend, and no prior registration is required. For older members of the community, this event is an excellent opportunity to connect, seek support, and enjoy friendly company in a relaxed and welcoming setting.
Last week, the residents of Peter's Terrace and Peter's Street came together for their much-loved annual Night on the Green - a beautiful evening filled with friendship, laughter and heartfelt memories. The community took a moment to lovingly remember Paddy Hennessy and Marie, who sadly passed away during the year. Their presence was deeply missed but warmly felt throughout the evening. The night was brought to life with fantastic entertainment from Paddy O’Sullivan and Joe Tobin, whose music set the perfect tone. Kicking things off in true Irish style, Leah Webster gave a wonderful display of Irish dancing, getting everyone on their feet with jigs and reels that carried the celebration into the night. Adding a thoughtful touch of care, Frances Sinnott provided cosy woolly socks to help keep both the elderly and young warm as the evening went on. It was a night that truly captured the spirit of community, filled with fun, laughter, and a shared sense of neighbourly care.
At just 12 years old, Freya Marsh has made Ireland proud once again by claiming gold at the IMMAF Youth World Championships in Abu Dhabi. Representing Checkmat Jiu-Jitsu Waterford and guided by her dedicated coach Wagner Luvezuti, Freya stood tall on the podium as the Irish national anthem echoed through the arena - a moment of immense pride and achievement.

This incredible success wouldn't have been possible without the amazing support from her extended team: Cian Flanagan Performance, at Raise the Bar Tramore; Tramore Boxing Club, Waterford Muay Thai and Harry at Checkmat Jiu-Jitsu. Waterford Freya’s journey to the world stage is even more inspiring, as she had to fund her own travel to compete. Her family is deeply thankful for the generosity of those who stepped up to help: Waterford Credit Union, Abbey Engineering, K Sport and Camida Clonmel A heartfelt thank you also to the Bus Éireann Waterford drivers, whose support and flexibility made it possible for Freya’s father, Michael, to travel with her.
