Local Notes: New Pastoral area, local lotto, sympathies and riddle of the week
Rose, winner of last week’s Touraneena Runner’s Club Predict Your Time League
At the Mass of the installation of the relic of St. Carlo Acutis in Ardfinnan, Bishop Cullinan formally announced the unification of four parish communities under a single title: St. Carlo Acutis Parish Pastoral Area. Following discussions with the four parish councils, it has been agreed that this new pastoral area will incorporate the parishes of: Touraneena and The Nire, Ardfinnan, Ballybacon, Grange, Newcastle and Fourmilewater. While each parish will continue to maintain its own parish council and individual identity, this new structure will allow the parishes to work closer together in day-to-day administration and liturgical collaboration. Much progress has already been made over the past three years, thanks to the continued dedication of those who serve in these churches. This development will make it easier to coordinate the upkeep, pastoral care and liturgical life of the seven churches, ensuring a more unified and sustainable approach for the future. We take this opportunity to thank our Parish and Finance Councils for their support and we look forward to continuing to grow together as a community, maintaining and celebrating the life of our local parishes and churches, now united under the patronage of St. Carlo Acutis.
Winning numbers last Sunday night were 18, 19, 28 and there was no winner. The five x €20 winners were Jimmy Lonergan, John Dalton, John O’Shea, Helen Martin and Carmel O’Neill. The promoter’s prize was won by Brendan Tobin. Next week’s jackpot is €600

The Sliabh gCua/St.Mary’s GAA Club extends deepest sympathies to the Walsh family on the passing of Anthony ‘Antóin’ Walsh. Antóin was a cherished friend to many in the Sliabh gCua area, having attended school in Touraneena National School. A former Colligan goalkeeper and a true stalwart of the GAA, Antóin dedicated a lifetime of service to the association, holding numerous roles at divisional, county, and provincial levels over the years. An honorary member of Colligan GAA Club, Antóin was a man of deep community and family values. He was a passionate advocate for the smaller, rural GAA clubs across the county, always ensuring that their voices were heard. His wisdom, presence and friendship will be profoundly missed by all involved in Waterford GAA. We fondly remember his visits to our dressing room, often accompanied by Paddy ‘General’ Walsh after a hard-fought derby match. Antóin always spoke with great respect for our club, often sharing a few words as Gaeilge, before acknowledging the spirit, effort and sportsmanship of both teams. We offer our heartfelt condolences to his beloved wife Patsy, sons Richard, Alan and Kenneth, daughter Antoinette, his extended family, many friends in GAA circles and all at Colligan GAA Club. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis. RIP Antóin.
