The date for the Sliabh gCua Set Club Monster Céilí is fast approaching and we have a great line-up of local musicians for the event. The Céilí is open to all ages and stages of dancing. We are looking forward to an evening of craic with our old friends and hopefully meet new friends both to reminisce and create new memories of the love and tradition of Irish dancing in Sliabh gCua.
Monnie Hallahan has kindly offered to be MC for the Céilí and we are also going to have a photographic display of old photos and newspaper cuttings from down through the decades.
The Céilí will start at 3pm on October 20 for a fun filled three hours and there will be a cake and a cuppa for everyone. The Tuck Shop will also be open on the day. Looking forward to seeing you there.
The extremely popular Sliabh gCua Sessions commenced online during Covid-19. Last year the sessions went live and due to popular demand the sessions are returning live on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th November in the Sliabh gCua Community Centre.
The tickets cost €15 for a Friday or a Saturday night or you can get a discounted weekend ticket that covers both nights for €25. More information to follow closer to the date.
The proceeds from the recent Colm Ryan Memorial Run were presented to the Irish Cancer Society recently. A fantastic sum of €2,830 was raised. We think it is safe to say that Colm would have been very smitten with the turnout for the run. 150 walkers and runners participated and Colm was fondly remembered by all who participated. The spirit of the Touraneena community was very evident throughout with the organisation of the event, the huge number of volunteers, stewards, and the volume of homemade refreshments provided to all in the centre after the race. We also say a huge thank you to Condon Dairy Services who were good friends of Colm and very generously sponsored the race prizes on the day, thank you to the West Waterford Athletics Club and all members of the Touraneena Runners Club for ensuring the success of the day and for Colm being remembered in what he loved to do best.
The jackpot numbers drawn last Sunday night were 3,4,16 and there was no jackpot winner. The 5 x €20 winners were Theresa Cliffe, Mossie Cliffe, Marian and Dermot, Patrick Morrisson and Francine Gleeson. The promoter’s prize of €20 was won by Brendan Tobin. Next week’s draw will be for a lotto jackpot of €1,500.
