One last dig deep for the boys, a fundraising table quiz in the Clodagh Bar on Friday, April 10th. Cost of a table of 4 is €40. Teams welcome, bring your family, friends or teammates. Support our young hurlers on their trip to New York. See you all for a great night next Friday.

Congratulations

Huge well done from Portlaw GAA club to Cian, Eoin and Theo on making the Waterford Minor football panel. Wishing them the very best of luck for the season ahead. It is a great honour for our club to have three players involved in the panel and to have Theo taking on the role of Vice-Captain.

Our U10’s also returned to training recently in the alley; great to see new and old faces again. A lovely bright evening and the girls were practicing the roll lift and jab lifting into the hand. This is actually our skill of the week, so it’s great to see the girls getting their practice in. Don’t forget to send your coaches videos of you practicing at home on WhatsApp. Well done girls. U10 training every Monday 6pm-7pm. Our U14’s were back on the field last week. Great to see the girls getting stuck in during the training match, winning the ball out of ruck can be the winning of a game. They train every Wednesday 6pm-7pm and their first game will be April 16th so keep up the good numbers. Well done girls. Portlaw Camogie Club Our Portlaw N.S girls are currently training hard in school in preparation for their Cumann na mBunscol games coming up in April.

U16 Schoolgirl result: What a day out in Cappoquin against Dungarvan. Had to dig deep with a short squad, but the U14s girls stepped up big time. Caitlin Whelan opened the scoring with a 20-yard pile drive, Lily Kinsella popped up with a couple, and a hat trick from Taylor Flannery, scored two screamers. The team played some belting football, and the back four were solid as a rock with Amelia Cowman, Aoife Foley, Kayla Griffin, Hannah Duggan playing unreal. Joint captains Summer Walsh and Hollie Ross made some top calls, and the U14s girls getting all the praise today, not looking out of place at U16 level. A 6-1 win, 3 points, and a big shout out to the parents making the trek to Cappoquin again.

Premier League Result: Team Sponsor: The Clodagh Bar. Portlaw 1 - 1 Ballinroad: We earned our first point of the season with Ballinroad, the visitors to the paddock in difficult conditions. Playing with a strong wind we dominated the first half and we made plenty of chances with Samuel Deevy and Michael O’Grady going close before good work from Deevy set up Peter Woods to give us a deserved lead. The second half was a more even affair against the wind and we were comfortable before Ballinroad equalised. From there it was a good battle with chances at both ends but the draw gets our season up and running.

U13 League: Park Rangers 3 v 4 Portlaw. Our U13’s were out recently in Park Rangers for their 11th league game of the season. Portlaw got off to a good start with some good passages of play, attacking the Park Rangers goal in breezy conditions. Portlaw took the lead in the 11th minute when Tommy Dunphy laid off the play inside the box for Seán Maher to finish from 15 yards out. Park Rangers equalised four mins later when they broke clear and scored from the rebound from Brian Grant’s save. Portlaw took the lead again in the 27th minute when Taylor Flannery launched a free from the halfway line into the box to find Seán Maher, who controlled and shot with the left leg from 10 yards. Two minutes later Portlaw extended their lead with Evan Kiely whipping in a corner which the keeper couldn’t hold and parried into the net. Park Rangers scored two minutes after the second half restart when a free kick was deflected onto the crossbar and then headed home from close range on the rebound. Portlaw got their fourth on 46 mins when some great play ended with Evan Kiely slotting a through ball to Finn Kirwan, who finished a left leg shot neatly under the keeper from a tight angle. Two minutes later Park Rangers scored from a mix-up in the Portlaw defence to make the score 4-3 to Portlaw. Park Rangers pushed hard for the equaliser in the last few minutes with some excellent defending and a great save from Brian Grant from a long range shot. Portlaw held on to take the three points and continue to keep pace with the league leaders.
