Local Notes: Bowls in memory of Peg, Baptism celebrations and more from St John's Park and Kilcohan

A bowls competition was held in Butler Community Centre in memory of the late Mrs. Elizabeth (Peg) Tebay.
A bowls competition was held in Butler Community Centre of 16 teams from all over the South East on last Tuesday, September 23. The competition was held in memory of the late Mrs. Elizabeth (Peg) Tebay. It was a fantastic day. Congratulations to the winners 1st Cnoc Bui and 2nd place went to Mullinavat Amber. We would like take this opportunity to thank the following for their fantastic support in making this competition a great success for the last few years, our co-ordinator Paddy O’Mahony and Jim O’Sullivan from St. Paul’s for all their help and hard work in putting this altogether and also setting up the hall and the staff of Butler Community Centre and Philip Hearne. John Walsh, who helped Paddy on the day with all the score keeping, thanks to St. Paul’s Active Retirement and St. Joseph’s for supplying us with extra bowling mats and also Mags Drohan and Caroline Williams who transported the mats to and from Butler Hall. Thanks to the Manager Anne Grogan and all her staff in Butler Community Centre for her continuous support in these events, without her help these events would not be so successful. Thanks to Eleanor, Bridie, Caroline, Betty, Trisha, Glencora and Michael who catered for the teams at lunch time. Thanks to Gerry Roche who took photos and videos of the event. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody sincerely who made the day so special. Indoor bowls are played every Monday from 10am to 12pm, and Fridays in Butler Community Hall, and if you never played indoor bowls before coaching is available for beginners, One of the attractions of indoor bowls is that it can be played by all ages, including men, women, juniors and seniors. It is also a great way to make new friends. New members are always welcome. As Peg Tebay quoted: “It’s not all about the competition, it’s having fun with friends.”

The Children’s Liturgy group resumed last Sunday and will continue each Sunday at the 11:30am Mass. It was lovely to see so many return and to see some new faces also. New members are always welcome.

Whist Club (card game) at the Butler Centre is changed to Wednesdays at 7-9pm. They would love to see all their old players and new players would be most welcome. €5 per person, all new members welcome.
To celebrate Positive Ageing Week we’ve teamed up with Waterford Badminton Association for a free badminton taster session for men and women over 50’s on Thursday, October 2, from 10-11am in Butler Community Centre. Sacred Heart Family Resource Centre is running a 9-week free online Parents Plus Early Years Programme for parents of children aged 0-7 years of age, this will be online in the evening from 7-9pm one evening a week. If you or anyone you know may be interested please ring Anne on 051 306728 or email info@sacredheartfrc.ie. We are hoping to start this in early October to have it completed before Christmas.
Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal fundraiser will be held on Saturday, October 4, from 2pm - 4pm in Calvary Church, Lower Yellow Road (opposite Citizens Information/ St Brigid’s). Guest speaker Teresa Wood, who is the Team Hope Shoebox Appeal Manager. Items in shoeboxes typically include something to wear (hats, gloves, scarves), something to wash with (soap, toothbrush toothpaste), something to write with (pencils, markers, copy books) and something fun (sweets, a cuddly toy, a small bouncy ball). Funds raised will go towards buying fillers for Waterford shoeboxes. All are welcome. There will be tea, coffee, refreshments and cake.
