Club Minor All-Ireland Final 2025: What a brilliant day out for some of our juvenile lads who travelled to support the Waterford minors in the All-Ireland Final and what a result! A proud day for the county, and great memories made that the lads won’t forget any time soon! A massive thank you to all the adults who travelled with them and helped make the day possible, and to the lads who were a credit to the club. Up the Déise!

U17B League Final Winners Portlaw 1-0 Tramore Rangers Team Sponsor: Pat Kerley Windows and Doors. Ozier Park was the venue for the league final, we travelled missing so many of our regular starters but nevertheless started really well and created a number of good chances but just couldn’t find the all-important opener.

The all-important goal arrived when Man of the Match Alfie Keane scored from the edge of the box on 50 minutes.

Tramore Rangers really pushed on after that but our back four and keeper Freddie Murphy ensured we kept a clean sheet and became league winners.

Thanks to the eight U16s we had in the squad. We also wouldn’t have made the final without the input of the following lads during the season who missed the game, Sam Croke, Conor Foley, Luke Ronayne, Adam Geraghty, Finlay McHardy, Conor Doherty, Cian Farrell Power.

Thanks to all the parents for their support throughout the year and to the coaching team of Locky, Philly and Carrots.

2B Cup Result Portlaw 4-0 De La Salle. Great 1st round win for our 2B team with an impressive 4-0 win over DLS at the paddock with player manager Mark Morahan rolling back the years with a hat trick. We had a couple of early chances before Moz scored his first with a bicycle kick from the edge of the box. Early in the 2nd half Moz burst past a defender to nip in and make it 2-0. Our third arrived when a Ryan Gallagher cross was smashed home by 16-year-old Kevin Lyons, giving Kev his 1st goal in adult football (1st of many for sure for this young man). (Thanks also to the medical support of Sylvia Mullowney who is claiming an assist on that one). Moz got the hat trick when he latched onto a pass from Shane O’Brien to score from close range. Some great defending throughout from our back four and goalkeeping debutant Paul “King of the Clean Sheet” Power ensured we kept DLS at bay. Great performance all round before mid-season break.

Portlaw United FC U17 Cup 1st Round Portlaw 2-2 Piltown (Piltown win 5-4 on penalties).  The game was played at a fast pace and had a real cup tie feel to it. Piltown started better and took the lead when we failed to defend a corner after that we got a foothold in the game with Samuel Deevy getting us back level before a Sam Croke corner was headed home by Jack Kennedy to give us a 2-1 lead at half-time.

Piltown got back level early in the 2nd half and from there it was end-to-end with chances for both teams to win it in normal time. Piltown took the honours on penalties 5-4 but a great effort from the lads. We wish Piltown the best of luck for the remainder of the cup while our focus moves to Tuesday night in Ozier Park where we play Tramore Rangers in the league final with a 7pm kick off. We wish our player Conor Doherty a speedy recovery after picking up a nasty injury during the game.

Portlaw Camogie Club

Our Intermediate Team spent a morning at Ballyscanlon Wellness Retreat. The girls started their morning with some yoga and mindfulness, working on flexibility, strength, balance and breathing. After yoga they then had the luxury of the stove sauna, which helps with muscle recovery and detoxification. After a cold plunge dip in the lake they also availed of the hot seaweed baths, which improves circulation and hydrates your skin and hair. The morning finished with some tea, coffee and apple juice followed by a short walk around the lake.

Sponsored walk

Big thank you to everyone who attended our sponsored walk in aid of our Portlaw GAA, Camogie and LGFA juvenile teams. We started off our walk leaving the Grotto in the Square, we headed up towards the gates and along the avenue, up to the Courtyard in front of the main house.

We stopped for a break to visit the Curraghmore Tea Rooms for a well-deserved coffee, cake and refreshments before returning back to the village.
