30th anniversary of Monsignor Joseph Corbett's ordination

Earlier this month, the 30th anniversary of the ordination of Reverend Monsignor Joseph Corbett, Pastor of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Atlanta, Georgia, was celebrated.

Holy Cross Church welcomed two coachloads of parishioners from St. Jude's and another carrying the Cathedral Choir of Christ the King in Atlanta, led by Rector Monsignor Frank McNamee, who was also marking his 30th ordination anniversary.

The Mass was concelebrated by Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan of Waterford and Lismore, Monsignor Nicholas O’Mahony, Fr. Michael Enright, Deacons Stan Stewart and Sam from Atlanta, and local clergy including Fr. Edmond Cullinan and Fr. Tomas.

The Cathedral Choir, accompanied by organist Michael Accursc, opened with a powerful rendition of “All Creatures of Our God and King.”

The church was filled with Monsignor Joe’s parishioners, family, and friends. Eamon Walsh, his uncle, and Holly from Atlanta gave the readings. Monsignor Joe delivered a warm and humorous homily reflecting on his ordination in 1995.

Hymns in Latin and English, including a special arrangement of Ag Chríost an Síol, enhanced the service.

Gratitude was expressed to Fr. Cullinan and all who helped prepare the church.

Before Mass, visitors stopped at Ballyvooney Cove, a cherished place for Monsignor Joe. The celebration concluded with “O God Beyond All Praising” and enthusiastic applause for the choir and organist.

A hub of community life

The Stradbally GAA Social Centre warmly opens its doors every Sunday night, offering a welcoming space for locals and visitors alike to gather for a friendly chat, enjoy refreshments, and watch The Sunday Game on TV. It's a relaxed and social evening, perfect for catching up with neighbours, sharing stories, and enjoying the post-match analysis together.

Beyond Sunday nights, the Social Centre is also available for private functions, making it a valuable resource for both club members and the wider community. Whether it’s a birthday, anniversary, family gathering, or a community event, the centre provides a convenient and well-equipped venue.

Most weeks feature live music or a bit of traditional craic, adding to the lively atmosphere and making it a popular spot for socialising and entertainment.

Cúl Camp at Stradbally GAA

Stradbally GAA held its annual Cúl Camp earlier this month, thanks to the efforts of co-ordinator Carolyn Walsh. Boys and girls enjoyed games and drills throughout the week. A highlight came Thursday with a visit from members of Waterford’s All-Ireland Minor winning squad, including captain James Comerford and local players like Emmet Walsh, Gearóid O'Shea (St Molleran's), Aaron Walsh (Abbeyside), Jack Power (Ballygunner) and Pierce Quann (Dungarvan) to the Stradbally camp.
