Woman (50s) dies in assault in Co Laois

A woman in her 50s has been killed in an assault in Co Laois.
Gardaí and emergency services were called to the incident at a home in the Church Street area of Portlaoise at 12.30pm on Sunday.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man in his 70s was arrested at the scene and is currently detained at a station in the Garda Eastern Region.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, and investigations are ongoing.
