GOMA Gallery of Modern Art is delighted to present Mise en Abyme, an art exhibition by Sharon Murphy.
In Western art history, ‘mise en abyme’ is the technique of placing a copy of an image within itself. Murphy uses this concept as a metaphor to investigate the boundaries between real and fictive spaces. Through recurring symbols such as curtains, deserted stages, and performative environments, she investigates the thin line between illusion and reality, presence and absence.
Sharon Murphy is a visual artist whose practice encompasses photography, video and installation.
Waterford Treasures Museums is inviting visitors of all ages to discover centuries of stories, objects and traditions through a special programme of events taking place during National Heritage Week 2026.
From exclusive curator-led tours and behind-the-scenes access to fascinating collections to family workshops and guided walks through the city’s ancient walls, this year’s programme offers a unique opportunity to explore Waterford’s rich and varied heritage.
Taking place across the week is a tour of the Bishop’s Palace, access to historic artefacts not normally on public display, an interactive family Viking workshop, a Waterford walls walk and a special Georgian-themed event with costume historian Melissa Shiels.
Most events are free of charge, with the family workshop and the special Georgian event with Melissa Shiels priced at €5 per person.
