The Dublin City Ramblers are performing in Waterford.

Copper Coast Summer Sessions, August 10, The Engine House Bunmahon

The Copper Coast Summer Sessions returns, with the Papa Zitas playing this week. The Papa Zitas are described as Ireland’s definitive Motown Big Band experience. Their 10-piece outfit delivers performances of all the 1960’s Motown classics. Headed by three vocalists (The Mama Zitas) the band also includes an exuberant brass section and thundering rhythm section.

Courtyard Sounds, August 9, Garter Lane Arts Centre

Courtyard Sounds is a series of free Friday evening musical events that are being held throughout the summer in the covered courtyard at Garter Lane Arts Centre, between the hours of 5pm and 7pm.

Admission is free and it’s the ideal spot to have a refreshing drink, mingle and unwind listening to original music right in the heart of the city centre. On August 9, Niall McCabe will be performing, with support from Joe Meagher and Paul Dillon.

Mary Coughlan 40th anniversary tour, August 24, Theatre Royal

Mary Coughlan, one of Ireland’s greatest ever jazz and blues singers is celebrating 40 years in music with an extensive tour throughout 2024.

Mary Coughlan’s career in music has seen her blending whisky-blurred, smoke-seared, husky notes with the laconic wit of Billie Holiday and Peggy Lee. She draws the line of deep, down, and dirty blues singers back to Bessie Smith with the sardonic, bitter-sweet defiance and despair of Edith Piaf. Yet Mary Coughlan delivers it all in a delicious and unapologetic Irish drawl: sceptical, rueful, mournful, and melting and ardent for love.

In 2020, Mary was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the then Mayor of Galway, Mike Cubbard.

Dublin City Ramblers, August 31, The Village Bar and Café

The Dublin City Ramblers are going to grace the new stage at The Village Bar and Café in Rathgormack this month.

They have thrilled audiences worldwide with their unique blend of ballads, folk, humour and wit. Their career has spanned more than 50 years, with over 40 albums, top ten hits, several awards for best ballad/folk group and 8 Gold Albums.

They have performed at The Milwaukee Irish Festival, The Cleveland Irish Festival, Hollywood Irish Fest, Florida, and Miami Irish Fest in Ft Lauderdale. They have also played at an abundance of venues in Ireland and abroad, including Dublin’s National Stadium, National Concert Hall, Cork’s Opera House, England’s Royal Albert Hall and New York’s Carnegie Hall.
