Palestinian artist displays work in Waterford

Manal Mahamid
An exhibition that was recently on display at The Gallery of Modern Art, was set against the historical backdrop of Waterford, whilst drawing particular inspiration from the people of Palestine.
The exhibition entitled ‘Lines of Flight’ was created by Manal Mahamid, a multidisciplinary Palestinian artist based in Haifa and Dublin since 2020.
Mahamid works across multiple mediums, including sculpture, video, installation, painting, and photography.
The recent GOMA exhibition, was described as being indicative of the artist embarking “on a poignant exploration of ecology, colonialism, and an enduring quest for belonging, drawing particular inspiration from the resilient spirit of Palestine and the stark realities faced by its people, especially in the context of the current war in Gaza.”
The exhibition was quoted as being a "heartfelt tribute to those navigating the harsh realities of displacement, inspired by the indomitable spirit found in nature’s most extraordinary navigators and the resilient people of Palestine and Gaza, as they forge their lines of flight in search of peace and a place to call home.”
