Local jazz hero to perform at Waterford music concert
The Phill Collins Quartet will perform inventive jazz at Waterford Music's first autumn concert on 11 September.
Waterford jazz fans can look forward to a performance from well-known jazz musician Phill Collins next month.
He will feature as part of the Phill Collins Quartet in Waterford Music's first autumn concert, on Thursday, September 11.
The concert will take place in the Dr Mary Strangman Large Room at 7.30pm on, September 11.
The quartet will play a selection of jazz composed and arranged by Phill Collins, with quirky titles like 'Kant Chant', 'A Middy Melody' and 'Noddy's Wheels'.
The Phill Collins Quartet is composed of Phill Collins (piano), Jin Ju Jang (bass), Tomas Gall (drums) and Karl Rooney on tenor saxophone. They come from a mix of musical backgrounds and are influenced by the likes of Stevie Wonder, Jan Garbarek and Chick Corea.
Phill Collins himself is well known in Waterford jazz circles, having run the Waterford Jazz Festival for a number of years.
He is a jazz pianist and composer, and he also lectures in jazz music at SETU.
Tickets for The Phill Collins Quartet are available from waterford-music.org and at the venue on the night.
They are priced at €20 for full-price tickets, €15 for seniors/unwaged, and €5 for students. Season tickets are also available from the website, priced at €75 for five concerts.
