America and Waterford unite for double-header gig in the Seantí

American songwriter Buddy Mondlock will be performing in the Seantí

A double-header gig due to take place at one of the south east’s most lively music venues promises to be one of the music events of the year.

Music fans in Waterford, south Kilkenny and across the south east area are in for a treat on Friday, May 10, when Déise songwriter, Martyn Travis, from Dunmore East will be joined by his friend, American songwriting legend, Buddy Mondlock for an intimate gig at the Seantí, in Smartscastle, Co Kilkenny.

Mondlock is a songwriter and folk singer of considerable repute who was discovered by Guy Clark. Shortly after moving to Nashville, in 1988, he signed a publishing deal with EMI.

A a master of poetic lyrics and heart-stirring melodies, he makes a lasting impression with his distinctive style and potent story telling. His inherent talent is evident on songs such as ‘Girls Town’ and ‘Weak’, on his latest album ‘Filament’, as well as the old classics such as ‘The Kid’ and ‘Coming Down in the Rain’. Such is his talent that Mondlock’s songs have been recorded by legendary artists such as Guy Clark, Nanci Griffith, Janis Ian, Garth Brooks, Joan Baez to name but a few.

Meanwhile, Martyn Travis is a compelling performer in his own right and is recognised for his distinctive, contemporary folk songs. From Dunmore East, he spent many years treading the boards in Europe, the USA, and UK, where played festivals, folk clubs and small theatres. He skillfully combines the reflective narration of folk music with his heartfelt vocals and proficient guitar skills.
