A 24-year-old woman who died after she was hit by a car in Co Tipperary has been named locally as Gabriella O’Donoghue.

O'Donoghue, a native of Templemore, was struck by a car on the R502 at Ballinlassa, between Templemore and Templetouhy, on Sunday evening shortly after 7pm.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a post on social media, her cousin Kathleen Lynch wrote: "My heart is in pieces tonight rip Cuz’’.

Another cousin Jimmy Delaney wrote "My poor little cousin god love her’’.

The motorist did not require immediate hospital treatment, gardaí confirmed. The coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them. Any road users who were travelling on this road at the time and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam), are asked to make it available to gardaí.
