The duo, who sat in sixth spot for much of the grueling 127.8km event, gave it their all before finishing in a time of 3:04:18.

There was a three-way photo finish after almost three hours of action with  The Netherlands' Tristan Bangma and his pilot Patrick Bos finished just two hundreds of a second ahead of compatriots Vincent ter Schure and Timo Fransen in 2:55:10, with France's Alexandre Lloveras and Yoann Paillot taking bronze in 2:55:18.
