Killavilla United (North Tipp) 0

Alex Phelan scored four goals as Villa cruised into the last eight of the Munster Junior Cup after this record win over Killavilla United of North Tipp. The Waterford side showed no mercy to the visitors as they lead 6-0 at half time. However Villa made five substitutions at half time and the players that came on were eager to do well so they kept the pace in the game. It was a pace that the visitors just couldn't live with as Villa fired home another five goals in the second half.

VILLA HIT SIX FIRST HALF GOALS.

Remarkably, the visitors who had the first chance of the game after only 3 minutes play. A long kick out by Aaron Mulready landed on the head of Villa defender Matt Grinius, but his soft header back to Craig Dunphy was intercepted by Killavilla striker Ruairi Murphy. He took the ball past Craig Dunphy but somehow missed the target as he shot over the bar. Villa took full advantage of that miss and took the lead on 19 minutes. Aaron O’Connor found himself in space on the edge of the box and he sent a curling right foot strike into the far corner of the net. Three minutes later it was 2-0 as O’Connor found Dean Walsh on the right and his wonderful cut back left Alex Phelan to apply the finishing touch. On the half hour mark, Villa hit goal number three. James Kennedy delivered a perfect cross to the near post and Dean Walsh beat the goalkeeper to the cross and flicked the ball into the net. With six minutes to go until half-time, Aaron O’Connor struck again and scored goal number four with a low drive from twenty yards. A minute later it was 5-0 as Dean Walsh took the ball past three defenders to tee up Alex Phelan to side foot home. It was six on the stroke of half time as Dean Walsh set up Alex Phelan, but his close range effort was saved by 'keeper Mulready but the ball rebounded and struck Killavilla defender Dylan Carroll and rolled into the net.

VILLA SUBS UP THE TEMPO

A minute into the second period Villa made it 7-0 and Alex Phelan completed his hat trick. Just after the hour mark, Villa made it 8-0. The visiting defender Michael Ryan found Alex Phelan in the box and Phelan picked himself up to slam home the spot kick for his fourth goal of the game. Goal number nine arrived on 65 minutes, Richard Lapite drove in a cross from the right, the visitors keeper Mulready saved underneath the bar but the ball struck defender Thomas Ahearn and went into the net. It was ten five minutes later as James Kennedy delivered another perfect cross and Conor Whittle came roaring to send a powerful header into the net. The last and 11th goal of the game came on 90 minutes as Shane Keenan took on the visitors defence to fire a well hit drive into the far corner of the net.

Moneygall 1

Portlaw United 1

AET Portlaw win 2-3 on pens.

A young Portlaw United team travelled to the Offaly border on Saturday to play Moneygall FC, a club that operate in the North Tipperary League. The Paddock Boys had a mountain to climb when Aodhan Ryan gave the home side a 39th minute lead. Portlaw did everything possible to score an equaliser, but they had to wait until the 89th minute to level the talented teenager and.substitute Sam Deevy provided the goal. In extra-time the visitors unbelievably struck the Moneygall crossbar on three occasions. Penalties were then required and the Portlaw captain, Darryl Walsh, Darren Rockett and John Power were successful with their spot-kicks. The hosts could only muster two successful penalties. Stefan McCurley, the Portlaw goalkeeper saved two of the Moneygall penalties. A brilliant victory for Tyrone Whyte and his young charges.

There was no joy for the other two remaining Waterford League clubs on Sunday. Tramore travelled to Thurles to play Peake Villa and an 18th minute strike from Ronan McGuire gave the South Tipperary League side the victory.

Final score. Peake Villa 1. Tramore AFC 0.

It was a heartbreaking defeat for Dungarvan United in Sixmilebridge, Co Clare against Bridge United. Tramore went toe to toe with the hosts for 90 minutes, but two minutes into stoppage time, Liam Buckley scored for Bridge United to give them their passage into the last eight.
