Dazzling display from magnificent McGlynn in Dublin Marathon Irish title

David McGlynn Waterford AC finished 5th overall in the Dublin City Marathon on Sunday morning last with a big personal best time and won the Irish National title also into the bargain in 2 hrs 10 minutes 59 seconds, the first male Waterford winner of an Irish Marathon title, his previous best was 2 hrs 15 minutes 26 seconds in the same race last year his first ever Marathon, his one other National title is the 10,000 metres track won in 2023—heartiest congratulations to David on his brilliant run.
In 1993, John Treacy, Waterford AC /New Balance, won the Dublin City Marathon in 2 hours 14 minutes 40 seconds, but at that time it did not include the Irish Championship; the Irish Championship winner that year was Seamus O'Donnell, Galway City Harriers, in 2.23.38. B. Ryan Jennings, Waterford AC, was National Champion in the Marathon 5 times in 1989, 1995, 1998, 1999, and 2000. Her best time in 1989 was 2hrs. 53 minutes.37 seconds, but she never won the Dublin City Marathon. Other members of Waterford AC had the following times: Pat Fitzgerald 2.28.56, Noel Murphy 2.30.36, David Nolan 3.08.48, Dean O'Shea 3.23.25, John O'Sullivan 3.34.01,Conor Cavanagh 5.30.51. Following from West Waterford AC ran Pat Hennessy 2.30.53,Raivis Zakis over 45 category 2.39.48.John Coffey 2.47.31 a PB,. Linda Foley 3.31.32 , Sandra Moore 3.33.19 and Louise Hynds 3.50.26.Very well done to all.
At the Munster Schools Combined Events Championships in Nenagh on Tuesday October 21 last the following top 3 placings by athletes from Waterford Schools were secured, Minor Girls Ali Lannon Declan's, Kilmacthomas 1st in with 2870 points, 3rd in Minor Siofra Moloney Ursuline with 2747 points, Lucy Raicevic and Ruby Stockwell St Augustine's 2nd and 3rd in Junior Girls with 2965 and 2757 points respectively, Senior Boys Adrian Mamomba De La Salle 3rd in Boys Senior with 1728 points, Eddie Raicevic St Augustine;,2nd in Intermediate with 2945 points and Eoin Campbell Árdscoil na Mara, Tramore 3rd in Junior with 2424 points All now go forward to all Ireland Schools on November 8th in Athlone.
On Sunday next, there's a Munster Cross Country Championship fixture in Two Mile Borris, Thurles, County Tipperary. On the programme are the Senior and U23 Championships for men and women, and the uneven-age Juvenile Championships for boys and girls u9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19. Lots of athletes from Waterford Clubs will participate in each event, starting with the girls' U9 race at 11.30 am. On Sunday, 16th November, the Munster Intermediate and Juvenile (B) Cross Country Championships are in Riverstick, Co. Cork, again beginning at 11.30 am. Sunday 30th November Munster Masters and Juvenile Interclub Relays, Lakelands, Tramore, Co. Waterford (near the end of the Promenade 11.30am.
On Sunday, November 15th, the 30th Annual Brickey's Road Race, organised by West Waterford AC, will have an 11am start, and number pick up will be at the Brickey Rangers G.A.A. club, by kind permission, from 10am. Liz Murray of Murrays Pharmacy Dungarvan is the sponsor, and all proceeds of this race will go to Brickey GAA club. The Waterford Road Runners League begins November 5th at 7 pm at the RSC and continues each Wednesday at the same venue each week. The Forde’s Daybreak Winter League will once again take place at the Sports Centre, Quanns Field, Dungarvan, for 11 Wednesday nights, commencing on Wednesday 5th November. It will continue for 7 nights before Christmas, bringing us up to Wednesday 17th December. After Christmas, they will return on Wednesday, the 7th January, for 4 nights, with our final night on the 28th January. 5th at 7 pm at the RSC and continues each Wednesday at the same venue each week. A reminder to all in both leagues and while out training, please wear reflective clothing at all times. A reminder also to all holding races to make sure you have plenty of stewards and Ambulance crew present and out around the courses to direct runners where to go.
