O’Brien wins the West Waterford Eurofins Greenway half-marathon

667 finished the Eurofins Greenway Half Marathon promoted by West Waterford AC on Saturday last and first home was Conor O'Brien Dooneen Limerick in 1hr 11 minutes, 2nd was Pat Fitzgerald Waterford in 1.11.10 and Aidan Connell West Waterford was third in 1.11.36.

First Lady home was Katie Wilson D.M.P. Wexford in 1.22.25, 2nd was Kate Veale West Waterford in 1.27.02 and Keely O'Reilly (Ind )was third in 1.28.34.

Age Category winners were: M40 Dermot Gorman Carrick on Suir, M45 John Hodge West Waterford, M50 Stanislaw Chromik St. Benedict Inbhear Mor, M55 John Murphy Grange Fermoy, M60 Patrick O’Grady Drogheda and District, M65 Anthony Dwyer, M70 Joe Gough both West Waterford AC.

ATHLETES ON THE MOVE 

Two Waterford AC athletes are on the move. Harry Colbert is travelling to the Manchester based M11 Track Club where Harry will be coached and trained from September 1. He will be travelling over once a month from his College final year in DCU. The Track Club is under the guidance of Jenny Meadows former GB athlete and Trevor Painter, who are coaches to some of the UK’s top athletes. Emer McGlynn also recently left for America where she took up a two year scholarship in Catawba College, North Carolina, USA. Best wishes to both.

GOWRAN ROAD RUN 

The inaugural Gowran four-mile road race, starting at the Hall in Gowran at 7pm on this Friday, September 6, and finishing in the village of Dunbell. The course is flat and fast, perfect for fast times. Prize giving will take place after the race in Connolly's Pub and a shuttle bus will be available to take people back to Gowran. CROSS COUNTRY FIXTURES 

The following Cross Country Dates have been finalised . Sunday week 15th September Tramore Open u 9, 11, 13, 15 at a course down close to the Promenade at 11 am the entrance is at the Inclusion Park. On Sunday September 22, St Senans AC Open Cross Country in Sports Complex in Kilmacow starts at 1pm. Girls and boys races u 8,9,10,12,14,16,18,Junior ladies u20 3000 metres ,Junior men u 20 7000 metres. Sunday, September 29, is County Day 1 u10, 12, 14, 16, 18, junior, senior, to be held at St Augustine’s College Grounds Abbeyside at 11am . €5 euro per athlete for competition number.

WATERFORD PRIMARY SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY 

The Annual Waterford Primary Schools Cross Country are at the RSC playing pitches on Tuesday, September 17, promoted by Ferrybank AC with an 11am start. Girls and Boys 1st Class 200m ,2nd Class 300 m,3rd and 4th Class 600 m ,5th Class and 6th Class 800 m Entry fee €3 per athlete. Awards and medals will be awarded to the first twelve athletes in each event. Perpetual Cups will be awarded to the first three schools in the following categories: Best Large Boys Schools 1st, 2nd, 3rd,Best Large Girls School 1st, 2nd, 3rd Best Small School 1st, 2nd, 3rd. COLM RYAN MEMORIAL RUN 

Touraneena Runners in association with West Waterford Athletic Club are hosting a Memorial run in memory of the late Colm Ryan on Sunday, September 15, starting at 11am in Touraneena. Colm was a champion of the Irish Cancer Society and raised substantial monies for this worthy cause before his untimely passing in April 2023.This 5km run/walk in his memory will continue this great work with all proceeds from the event donated to the society. COUNTY BOARD MEETING 

A meeting of the County Board will be held in the SETU Arena at 7.30pm this Wednesday evening, September 4.
