Déise ladies defender Emma Murray has received her first All-Star nomination after an impressive campaign in the half back line.
The Comeragh Rangers warrior was named TG4 Player of the Match in Waterford’s All Ireland championship win over Donegal at Walsh Park. She went on to shoot two points from play and assist a goal for her sister Katie in the quarter final loss to Cork. The number seven popped up everywhere during the first half of that game. She boasts an incredible engine. Amazingly, she played every minute of every game in 2024. She started and finished all thirteen matches.
Emma has emerged as a leader of the Waterford team in recent years, powering up the field with ball in hand and breaking up opposition attacks. She never stops running, she never stops working.
Murray joined the Waterford first team as a teenager in 2015 under Sullivan and won an All-Ireland intermediate medal in year one. Her talent was clear to former Déise attacker Michelle Ryan at an early age. “From the very first game I played with Emma Murray, I knew she was going to be a star.” The triplets (Aoife, Emma and Katie) and sister Cora all donned the white and blue jersey this season. Katie was nominated for an All Star in 2021. Full back Hannah Power and midfielder Kellyann Hogan were unlucky to miss out on the 2024 long list.
All Ireland champions Kerry lead the way with fifteen nominations after lifting the Brendan Martin Cup for the first time in 31 years. Runners-up Galway are next best on nine followed by Armagh (eight), Dublin (five) and Cork (four). Meath, Kildare, Tipperary and Waterford all got one each.
The 2024 TG4 All Star team will be revealed at a gala banquet in The Bonnington Dublin Hotel on Saturday, November 16.
