RIP.ie invites Ireland to walk in memory of loved ones for 20th anniversary
RIP.ie is inviting people across Ireland and beyond to walk 20 kilometres, at their own pace and in their own time, in memory of someone special.
The organisers say participants can walk alone or with others, choosing any location that feels right to them. The focus is not on speed or competition, but on taking time to reflect, remember and honour the lives that have shaped us.
The initiative, being fronted by broadcaster and wellness advocate Síle Seoige, marks the 20th anniversary of RIP.ie, which has become a central part of Irish life and society, where people come together to pay respects, share condolences, and honour loved ones.
Speaking about her involvement, Síle Seoige said: “Grief touches every family, every community, and every one of us at some point in our lives. The RIP.ie Remembers Walk is a beautiful way to honour those we’ve lost while supporting others who are navigating their own journey through grief. I’m proud to be part of a campaign that brings people together in such a meaningful and compassionate way.”
According to the organisers, the RIP.ie Remembers Walk is designed to be simple yet deeply meaningful. "Whether walking a quiet country road, a favourite beach, or a local park, every step becomes a tribute.
"Participants are encouraged to fundraise for a charity of their choice, with fundraising pages powered by Eventmaster.ie, ensuring a smooth and secure experience for all taking part."
As part of the initiative, organisers say that, through RIP.ie Remembers, every registrant who fundraises can commemorate a loved one with the planting of one square foot of native Irish woodland in a dedicated remembrance woodland in Co Carlow. A personalised certificate will be sent in their honour, creating a lasting, living tribute rooted in Ireland’s natural heritage.
Mairead Neary, digital content editor for RIP.ie, said: “As we approached our 20-year milestone, we wanted to mark it in a way that truly reflects what RIP.ie has meant to people. For two decades, families have come to the site to honour loved ones and find connection during difficult times.
"The idea for the RIP.ie Remembers Walk came from something simple and meaningful — walking. Walking gives us space to reflect, to remember, and to feel close to those we’ve lost. This campaign invites people to take that time, honour someone special, and turn remembrance into action.”
For those interested in taking part, registration is now open at https://ripremembers.rip.ie/ and is open to all ages and backgrounds.
