'Upset' over N25 static camera

A Static Speed camera near N25 near Kilkenny.

Questions were raised about the N25 static speed camera at a recent meeting of Piltown Municipal District. Councillor Fidelis Doherty (Fine Gael) said that she had been contacted about the new N25 static camera.

Cllr Doherty said: "In relation to the N25 static camera and the signage, it's still being referenced to me that there isn't enough notice. While plenty of notice has been given and driver feedback was indicated, its still causing a good bit of concern. It's possibly being seen as a way to generate money when really the whole issue is people's safety and saving lives."

She continued: "There's still an issue there regarding the signs that at 250 metres out, at the last 50 metres people are being recorded, there's no definitive notice that says 'in 250 metres, the static camera will detect it'. We have to do something, it's causing too much upset. 14,000 vehicles travel that road everyday, sometimes twice a day."

She added that people were driving safer, but motorists coming from the New Ross bypass direction are being impacted by the static camera.
