Late Anthony Walsh

Stalwart of local GAA and late of Waterford Council, Mr Anthony Walsh passed away on Wednesday, October 8.

Following their colleagues in Dungarvan-Lismore, councillors at the October sitting of the Comeragh District Council extended a vote of sympathy to the family of the late Mr Walsh.

Cllr Liam Brazil requested that a letter of sympathy be sent to Mr. Walsh's family on behalf of the Comeragh District.

He also voiced his sympathies to Anthony's daughter Antoinette, who also works with Waterford Council.

Cathaoirleach of the District, Cllr John O'Leary, added: "Anthony worked with Waterford Council for many years and was a great GAA advocate.

"He served in many, many positions in the Waterford County GAA board and then went on to serve in the Munster Council GAA.

"He made a great service to GAA and stood out in his work and contribution."

Seamus De Faoite, Waterford Council Director of services, expressed sympathies on behalf of the management of Waterford City and County Council and said: "Anthony worked in the roads department back in the day here. There wasn’t a grant going in relation to roads across the entire county that he wasn’t involved in, in regards to drawing down as much money as possible from the department for Waterford council."

Meanwhile, the Munster GAA Chairman Tim Murphy also expressed his condolences this week: “Anthony Walsh gave a lifetime of service to the GAA as a player and administrator.

"After a long stint as Waterford delegate to Munster Council, Anthony served on the Management Committee of Munster GAA from 2014 to 2020 during which time he assumed the roles of Treasurer and then PRO. "On behalf of Munster GAA, we extend our heartfelt sympathies to Anthony’s family along with his wide circle of friends."
