Funded under HSE Social Inclusion, the LGBT Health Project is based in Manor Street Youth and Community Centre in the heart of Waterford City.
The Project offers a support service for LGBT young people aged 14 to 24 years, focusing on delivering community-based health and well-being interventions on an individual and group level. This includes providing a variety of activities that promote relaxation, self-care, and creativity, within the safe and inclusive environment of the Manor Street Youth Centre.
The LGBT Health Project is part of an Integrated Youth Service in WSTCYS, working closely with a range of other Projects under one roof to provide connection, support, information and guidance to young people and service users.
A spokesperson for the project said: “We always start where you are at; youth participation is a cornerstone of our approach.”
The project also collaborates on the delivery of the Southeast Community Healthcare LGBT Awareness Training for the HSE and other interested organisations and agencies.
The training aims to enhance knowledge and understanding of the needs of LGBT Service Users and to support services and staff to provide accessible and inclusive services for the community.
