Works progressing on sustainable transport bridge

It has been ten months since the momentous delivery, lifting and installation of the four steel superstructure sections of the sustainable transport bridge.

Works have been ongoing since, with the bridge expected to be open to the public in 2027.

Director of Services for Kilkenny, Mr. Ian Gardner, provided updates on the works to the bridge at this weeks Piltown Municipal District Meeting.

The finishing works on the sustainable bridge are ongoing, with the installation of the edge railings, glass panels and pedestrian barriers.

The remaining finishing works including the surfacing, lighting, street furniture etc. will commence shortly

The temporary steel supports for the sustainable transport bridge are currently being removed from the river, and the pier protection system will be completed in the coming months.

In recent weeks, the bridge was visited by Minister for Transport Darragh O'Brien, Government Chief Whip Minister Mary Butler TD and Minister of State for Local Government and Planning Minister John Cummins TD.
