A man in his thirties has been arrested in relation to her death.

The woman's body was discovered at a residential property in a rural area of County Waterford at Ardsallagh, near Youghal Bridge.

A woman in her eighties who was found dead in a house in West Waterford has been named locally as Noreen Daly. 

It is understood that Ms Daly was a widow who lived alone in her house and that shockwaves were sent throughout the small community where her body was found. 

A man in his thirties has been arrested in relation to her death. 

He is currently detained pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a garda station in the South Eastern Region

Shortly after 2 pm Gardaí found the woman and she was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Gardaí are asking anyone with information to come forward  particularly anyone who was in the Ardsallagh or Youghal Bridge areas in recent days.

A spokesperson said: “Road users with camera footage, including dashcam recordings from the area, are also urged to come forward”
