A woman who is serving a lengthy prison sentence has had a new charge preferred against her.

Christina Ryan (28), of Gaulstown, Glenmore, has pleaded guilty to possessing a small amount of cannabis after gardaí stopped her vehicle on the Cork Road.

For the offence, Ryan received no further sentence, and instead the charge was taken into consideration with the sentences she is currently serving.

Ryan is due for release from prison in October 2028.

She was previously sentenced to 18 months in prison for the sale and supply of drugs to others.

She also recently appeared in court for a physical fight that took place in Centra on the Quay, where she threw "forceful punches" and pulled the hair of another party while members of the public were present.

The majority of her previous convictions are drugs related offences.
