Woman guilty of string of thefts across Waterford

She stole from Shaws in both Dungarvan and Waterford City.

A woman has pleaded guilty to a string of thefts committed across Waterford City. 

Amy Byrne, of Moyne House, Grattan Quay, appeared at Waterford Circuit Court and pleaded guilty to seven separate charges of theft and one charge of possession of an article intended to be used in relation to theft. 

On July 18, 2025, the 45-year-old committed theft at Shaws Department store in Dungarvan, stealing property to the value of €805.60. 

The following day she stole property to the value of €12.65 from Maxol service station in Dungarvan. On August 27, she stole €524.50 worth of cosmetics from Haven Pharmacy, Dungarvan. 

Waterford City thefts

On September 16 she stole a No.7 gift set from Boots pharmacy, Barronstrand Street, Waterford City. The following month, she committed theft to the value of €260 at a Sports Direct outlet. 

On October 17 she committed an act of theft at Claire's Accessories on Broad Street to the value of €28, including earrings and a gold ring. She was also charged for possession of an article with intent to commit theft, namely a bag lined with tinfoil. 

Lastly, on October 19, Byrne stole €653.90 worth of property from Shaws Department store on The Quays, Waterford City. 

Defence counsel Brian P. O'Shea made no application for a probation report. Judge Eugene O'Kelly requested that a victim impact statement be sought from the affected parties. Byrne will be sentenced in April.
