The woman was fined €500 for the theft at Penneys.

A woman has received a fine for 'accidentally' taking over €300 worth of items from Penney's in Waterford City. 

Gisele Franzoni, of Clonwilliam Court Apartments, stole property to the value of €304.30 from the Barronstrand Street store on August 14, 2026. 

At Waterford District Court, Judge Kevin Staunton imposed a €500 fine and gave the defendant four months to pay. 

He commented: "I'm a bit skeptical of the phone call."

The court heard that on the day Franzoni received an urgent call and absent-mindedly left the shop with the items, which she 'had every intention' of paying for. She has no previous convictions and 'suffers from ADHD'.
