Mayor Liam Brazil has revealed that Waterford FC’s upcoming appearance at the FAI cup final will see the city lighting up blue in a glowing show of support for the team.
Pledging his support, Mayor Brazil thanked the club’s staff and supporters for their dedication, as the team’s clash with Derry FC in the Aviva stadium grows ever closer.
Leading up to the 3pm kick-off on November 8th, homes, businesses, public buildings and landmarks will all be bathed in the team’s colours, turning the town into a beacon of support.
Their first FA cup final appearance since a 2004 loss to Longford town, the Blues are hoping to recreate the successes of 1980, the last time they were crowned champions.
A month after their hard-earned 2-0 victory over Bohemians in Dalymount park, excitement in the city and county is reaching a fever pitch, as fans dream of a historic win for a new generation.
Mayor Brazil praised Waterford FC manager Graham Coughlan, captain Padraig Amond and all the players for their efforts.
“Reaching an FAI Cup Final doesn’t happen by chance, it’s the result of countless hours of training regimes, matches, discipline, hard work and sacrifice,” said Mayor Brazil.
“They have brought excitement and unforgettable moments to supporters of all ages,” he said.
“I wish them the very best of luck in Sunday’s final at the Aviva, and no matter what happens on the day, the Blues have already given the people of Waterford plenty to cheer about.”
