Williamstown Sports Complex to remain closed indefinitely following power outage

Williamstown Sports Complex will remain closed indefinitely following the successive failure of onsite transfomers

Williamstown Sports Complex will remain closed indefinitely as it remains without power following a failure of two transformers on Tuesday, December 9.

Another previous incident of a transformer failing was recorded by the ESB on Saturday, December 6.

A statement from the complex sent to members said: “A risk assessment was carried out at 7:30 am this morning by Billy Flynn and Darren Doyle.

“It confirmed that while the snapped cables have now been safely tied up and will be permanently fixed in the new year, a more serious issue remains.”

The complex said if an issue with a transformer were to occur again “it would require significantly more extensive repair work.”

The complex hosts De La Salle FC, St. Joseph's AFC, Tycor AFC, and Red Star FC.

All activities, including FAI coach training, will be postponed.
