Waterford's popular Holy Cross pub changes hands

The Holy Cross pub.

Publican Garreth McCarthy has been confirmed as the new owner of The Holy Cross in Butlerstown, following the retirement of long-term proprietors Bobby and Eileen Bohill in 2024 after 30 years of business.

Mr McCarthy is the proprietor of Uisce Beatha, Zanzibar, Adega Wine Bar and Brady’s bar and the owner of GMC Auctioneers.

The site encompasses .32 hectares of land, and has 150 parking spaces with a small al fresco beer garden.

The pub is located by Butlerstown GAA Club, and in close proximity to SETU, the IDA Business and Technology Park, and UPMC Whitfield.

The asking price for the site was initially held at €575,000 by Sherry Fitzgerald.

John Rohan managed the sale of the property.

Bobby Bohill spoke to the Waterford News & Star’s Darragh Murphy last year.

“I should have retired about 10 years ago, but the time wasn’t right, and we loved working here,” Mr Bohill said.

“30 years is a lifetime."
