Yet another Pancake Tuesday has come and gone. For the Rotary Club in Waterford, Pancake Tuesday is one of the most important dates in their calendar. For nearly 30 years, they have organised an annual Pancake Tuesday bonanza for elderly citizens in Waterford.

This year, the event had over two hundred attendees. At €5 per ticket, attendees were treated to lunch, pancakes, music, a comedy set, a raffle and an afternoon of good craic. The Rotary Club heavily subsidise these tickets to make the afternoon as accessible as possible.
May Ireland from Lismore Park has been coming to the Rotary’s pancake Tuesday for "seven or eight years". She told the Waterford News & Star, that she goes every year because “it's lovely to see everyone enjoying themselves".
Angela Dynan from Avondale came with her 93-year-old father, Robert Burke, from St John’s Park.

“It was my dad who rang up about the tickets, so I said I’d come with him.”
She said the pancakes were “absolutely amazing.”
Two ladies who referred to themselves as "the two Eileens" told the Waterford News & Star that it was their first time going to the event.
Eileen said it was “absolutely wonderful. A great day out.”

Bridie McNamara from Mooncoin said it was “lovely for the money you’re paying.” She very much enjoyed the strawberries and cream on her pancakes.

Anne-Marie Caufield from the Rotary Club, Waterford, said, “Every year we have old friends that come back and visit us and new ones as well.”
Ms Caufield also mentioned the tradition of inviting TY students from local schools to help with the event.
She said: “They help out a lot but I think they also get a lot from it. I think it's great to see younger people meeting and helping our older citizens.”
