Waterford volunteers highlighted on BBC programme this evening for the first time

Volunteers from the Tramore RNLI group will feature for the first time in the latest episode of the BBC’s Saving Lives at Sea series, which will be broadcast on BBC Two this evening, Wednesday, September 30 at 8pm.

Tonight’s episode follows the volunteer lifeboat crew from Tramore RNLI as they respond to an early-morning pager alert.

Members of the RNLI group also spoke with the BBC’s film crew, sharing their experience of the rescue and giving viewers a glimpse of what it means to volunter at a lifeboat station that has been part of the Tramore community for generations.

Speaking ahead of the broadcast, Tramore RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager Clive Smith said, “We’re delighted to see Tramore RNLI feature on Saving Lives at Sea for the first time. Our lifeboat station has been shaped by the many volunteers, fundraisers and supporters who have given their time to it over decades.

“The crew featured in the programme are part of that continuing story. It’s lovely to see them representing the station and the town, and giving people a glimpse of what happens when the pager sounds.” 

Saving Lives at Sea has followed RNLI lifesavers since 2016, combining interviews with volunteers and the people they rescue with real-life rescue footage.
