Waterford toddler laid to rest after tragic accident

Mourners gathered for the funeral of a Waterford toddler yesterday afternoon, Monday, June 10.
The Mass of the Angels took place for two-year-old Elizabeth (Lizzie) Troy in St. Gobnait's Church.
Lizzie, who has a twin sister, Freyja, died in a tragic accident on Wednesday, June 5, at her home in Dungarvan.
Emergency services were called and they rushed the toddler to University Hospital Waterford, where she was later pronounced dead.
She is survived by her heartbroken parents Nathan Troy and Mary Caitlan Rigney, her twin sister Freyja, grandparents Lisa and Declan O’Keefe and Kathleen and Martin Troy, great grandparents Willie and Mary Rigney, great aunt Betty McEvoy, aunts Lydia and Jessica Troy and her uncles Joey and Kelvin Troy and Michael Phelan.
Gardaí confirmed that her death was a "tragic accident". A file is to be prepared for the Coroner's Court and a Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been appointed to provide support and assistance to the family.
Since the community has learned of Lizzie's death, tributes have poured in from people locally, and across the country as they show love and support at a very difficult time for her loved ones who mourn her.
"May God comfort you all at this sad time. God love you all and her little sister. I have twin grandchildren next door, so there are no words. I will pray and think of you all," said an anonymous message, signed by "a Kerry Nanna".
Another message, written by a Limerick family, reads, "Utterly heartbroken for you all on Lizzie's passing, may ye find solace in the time ahead. Heaven has gained a beautiful angel, thinking of you all at this very sad time, there are no words to describe the sadness, be kind to yourselves."
A Galway dad also shared his condolences, "I am so sorry for your huge loss. I was heartbroken when I heard this news. I will remember Lizzie and you all in my prayers. RIP Lizzie."
