There was great reason to celebrate in one Waterford secondary school following the recent Iverk Show as a number of pupils came away with some great prizes from competitions.

Waterpark College was well represented at the event and Ms. Lanigan’s Art Department, in particular, received many plaudits for the students' creative work.

A spokesperson for the school commented: "Grace Cahill did us proud by scooping first place for her environmentally inspired collage piece featuring our native bee."

Other Senior Art students, Jude Doyle Power, Ariel Frey and Henry Avery also won cash prizes for their entries.

The spokesperson said Henry’s portrait piece paid a special tribute to his former maths teacher, Mr. Culloty. 

The English Department was also delighted with wins for Sadhbh MCarthy’s inspiring poem about 'Ireland', and David Dempsey for his homage to mothers everywhere.

"Ms. O' Keeffe's Home Economics students’ talents were recognised by the judges in the Arts and Crafts Felting category," said the spokesperson.

"Well done to Sarah Wahid and Áine Ní Fhoghlú for their pieces inspired by the Irish countryside," she said.
