Waterford school among the fittest in Munster

A Waterford school has won its way to the Munster Final of this year's 'Ireland's Fittest School' competition.
Our Lady of Mercy Senior Primary School is one of five primary schools to have qualified for the live ‘Munster final’ of this year’s competition to find Ireland’s Fittest School 2026.
Supported by fruit importer Fyffes and tracked online, the purpose of the competition, launched in December and now in its fifth year, is to promote the importance of exercise, fitness and healthy eating amongst young people.
The Munster final will take place at Canon Hayes recreation centre, Tipperary later this month.
The regional finalists from Munster, Leinster, Connacht and Ulster will the compete in the grand final in Athlone on May 20th.
Hosted by one of Ireland’s best-known Olympians – sprinter David Gillick – the prize package will include €8,000 worth of sports equipment and the title of ‘Ireland’s Fittest School 2026’.
The four other schools taking part in the Munster final will be Cork’s, Bweeng National School and Ballyhass National School; along with Tipperary’s Sisters of Charity NS and Ardfinnan NS, both in Clonmel.
