One of the most popular priests to ever serve the community in Waterford will be remembered at a very special Mass in the city on Tuesday, June 3.

That day, at 7.30pm in St Paul's Church, the late Fr Colm O'Brien will be honoured through a special Mass to celebrate what would have been his silver jubilee as a priest.

Fr O'Brien passed away in 2009, following an illness, when he was just 36 years of age.

The parish will celebrate a priest who was dearly loved and respected by everyone in the community.

Fr. Colm was from Belvedere Drive and was Baptised and Confirmed  in St Paul's where he also served Mass and was a reader.

He was ordained in St. Paul’s in June, 2000 and subsequently served in the parish of St. Peter and Paul’s, in Clonmel and in Holy Cross Parish, Tramore.

In both parishes he was thought of as an extremely, highly respected and genuinely humble priests who was devoted to the spiritual wellbeing of the people he ministered to.

Through his short ministry, Fr Colm made a very significant impression on everyone who knew him and he had a particular affinity towards young people who could relate to him in a very positive way.

Prior to becoming a priest, in his younger years, he worked locally in Waterford City and such was the regard in which he was held that the annual Fr. Colm O’Brien memorial cycle has raised significant funds for local charities over a ten year period.

In a post on the Waterford and Lismore diocesan website, waterfordlismore.ie, it was noted that 'as a way of celebrating and thanking God for Fr Colm's life and priesthood, Bishop Cullinan will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving for the priesthood of Fr Colm'.

The mass will be celebrated, appropriately, on what would have been his 25th anniversary.

Everyone in the community is invited to attend what promises to be a very special celebration.
