Waterford life in the roaring '40s

This photo, taken in Stradbally village in the 1940s features: Mary Kate McKeon, Michael Murphy, Margaret Dunford, Cha Dunford and Rose Dunford.

Waterford city and county in the 1940s were very different places to what they are now.

From pace of life to way of life a lot of changes have occurred in the interim.

Stradbally Photographic Archive works at preserving some of the Déise's history through photo documentation and the archive was recently given a photo courtesy of Tadgh and Mary Crowley, which gives a little insight into life in Stradbally village in the 1940s.

The photo, from the collection of Tadgh's mother, the late Mary Kate Crowley (née: McKeon), was taken in front of Hannigan's shop and post office in the village.

The image features Mary Kate McKeon, Michael Murphy, Margaret Dunford, Cha Dunford and Rose Dunford.

A spokesperson for Stradbally Photographic Archive said anyone who has old photos from in and around the Stradbally area who would like to have them included in the archive can get in contact with Tom Hickey (087 9386209) or Christine King by email to christinebennettking@gmail.com
