One of Waterford City's most iconic landmark businesses has reopened its doors following months of refurbishment.

Michael Guiney's Waterford reopened its doors on Friday, July 24, much to the delight of management and staff, but also local shoppers.

The opening saw an outside broadcast from local radio and throughout the day a large number of customers visited the store.

The store closed its doors on December 23, following a small electrical fire and at the time a spokesperson from the store's head office said evaluation of the damage was awaited.

Once that evaluation took place repairs began.

Thankfully, the work is now complete and the opening of the revamped store was very much welcomed in the city over the weekend.

Other business owners in the city centre also welcomed the reopening as Guiney's is know for bringing footfall into the city centre and that in turn can benefit other surrounding businesses.

There were exclusive prizes handed out on the day of the reopening along with a range of 'reopening bargains' that also went down very well with customers.

The store is now open for business during normal opening hours and as they posted online: 'Officially reopened; the wait is over — our Waterford store is officially back open!'
