Waterford homeless charity needs cooks for Christmas dinner
Waterford Helping the Homeless provide hot food for Waterford's homeless twice per week.
Waterford Helping the Homeless, a charity that provides hot meals to the homeless in Waterford two days each week, have put out a call for volunteer chefs to help with the Christmas Dinner.
They explained that the chef who did it previously is unavailable this year.
In a post on Facebook they said: 'It is a big ask, but we need someone to cook dinner for approx 50-60 people. We provide the food to be cooked. Each year, we do 2 turkeys, 2 hams, roast potatoes, vegetables, all the works."
They went on to explain that because their premise does not have cooking facilities, the food would need to be made off-site and then delivered. This means that due to the volume of food, the person would ideally have access to an industrial or professional kitchen.
However, if that is not available, they said they could also organise multiple people to cook one part of the dinner each.
If you would like to help them out, you can message them on Facebook messenger, their Facebook profile is Waterford helping the homeless.
They ended the post thanking their supporters: 'Thanks again to everyone for supporting us all year round, we couldn't do this without you and we're always blown away by the kindness and generosity of the people of Waterford and beyond.'
This callout comes at a time when the homelessness rate in Ireland is at a record high of 16,000, including 5,000 children.
