The Gardaí in Waterford are investigating a number of thefts from cars that occurred in the city in recent days.

A spokesperson for the force told Waterford News & Star that in one a catalytic converter was taken sometime overnight between Monday, November 17 and Tuesday, November 18.

The theft occurred between the hours of 5.30pm and 8.25am.

"This was just off the Cork Road, on O’Reilly Road in Waterford City," said the spokesperson.

In an appeal for assistance from the public the spokesperson said: "If you can assist Gardaí in this investigation, please contact Unit A at Waterford Garda Station."

The second incident occurred on John Lane, in the city centre.

The Garda spokesperson said a caller reported seeing youths attempting to break into a white Toyota Hatchback on November 23, at 6.10pm.

"On arrival the youths had fled but the vehicle has been taken for Technical examination and CCTV has been obtained, but if you can offer further information please contact Unit A at Waterford Garda Station," she said.

"Again we would encourage people to report any suspected crimes by phoning 999/112 or their local Garda Station," she added.

"If you see something, 'say something', or via our audio messaging service on the confidential line on 1800666111."
