A Mayoral Reception for Waterford County Ladies Darts Team was hosted by Mayor Seamus Ryan this week.

The reception at City Hall was in celebration of the team’s success at the recent Munster Darts Championships, which continued Waterford’s strong tradition in the women’s game.

In becoming Munster Champions 2026, this talented group showed incredible determination, skill and teamwork throughout their campaign, including a remarkable comeback victory in the semi-final and a strong finish in the final.

Taking place in Ennis in February, the team fought back from 3-1 down against Cork in a tough semi-final to win 4-3.

In the final, Waterford overcame Kerry with a dominant 4–1 victory to claim the Munster title in a brilliant display of determination, nerve and teamwork.

Honoured at the Mayoral Reception this week was Captain Beth Gardner, Triona Walsh, Gillian Higgins, Bronagh O’Shea, Maggie Earle, Jenny Doyle, Madeline Josey, Jade Lonergan and Gemma Caulfield.

Present for the reception were councillors Adam Wyse and Declan Barry.

In his address, Mayor Ryan congratulated the team’s managers, families, supporters, and everyone involved in their victories.

“Each of you has played your part in a wonderful achievement for your county, and each of you has represented Waterford with real pride” the Mayor said.

“A team like this does not happen by accident, so I also want to acknowledge team managers Vinny O’Brien and Regina Hartigan for their commitment and support.

“Sport at every level matters. It brings people together, builds confidence and community spirit, and gives us moments like this, moments of pride that deserve to be marked.”

Mayor Ryan also congratulated Jade Longergan, who claimed the Ladies Singles title with a superb 4–2 victory over Scotland’s Karen Laurie in the final.

“I also want to make special mention of Jade Lonergan, who added to a memorable weekend by winning the Ladies Munster Singles Championship. That is a superb individual achievement and one very much deserving of recognition here."
