Waterford Council respond to private €30 million airport funding announcement

Waterford City and County Council has said it is to hold a special meeting to consider the €30 million in funding offered to the airport.
It was announced this morning by the Bolster Group that they had secured the funding from a private investor.
The council says elected members received a briefing today and will consider the proposal “in line with statutory requirements” on October 17.
If the proposal is approved, the Council’s airport-related assets would transfer to the new investor.
Waterford City and County Council has received details of a significant new private investment proposal for Waterford Airport.
The council says the proposal follows confirmation from Devin Regional Investments Limited that they are no longer interested in progressing their investment proposal.
The proposal would provide funding of approximately €30 million will deliver the full development of the Airport, as outlined in the business plan submitted to the Government in December 2023.
This will mean no funding will be required from the Government.
The development works will include runway extension, terminal upgrades and facilities to support the return of commercial passenger services.
The funding also provides for the retention of existing Airport staff and continuation of the Search and Rescue Service (SARS) contract.
