Waterford College of Further Education has said a fond farewell to two staff members who retired recently.
In a post on social media, the college thanked Deputy Principal Gerry Doyle, who worked at WCFE for 25 years, and Maria Hayes, who built the Beauty Therapy Department and retired after 28 years.
“It's hard to measure the contribution of someone on the human level, as friends or colleagues.
"Much easier to wonder at their legacy in the college itself, the equation of passion and time devoted to the service of teaching.
“There would be no shortage of students to testify to the life-changing work of our two colleagues, students whose dreams came true, students who were scaffolded by these two wonderful people.
"Quantifiable success that can be traced back to professionalism, drive, and the creation of courses that opened the world up to those who studied them.
“But on this September day, as the evening basks in the last of a summer's passing, we take a moment to say thanks to Gerry and Maria for who they are.
That essential magic that brings people together inspires the human connection. The unquantifiable brilliance of your being; what two great friends you are.
“You always go the extra mile, you always help, you always listen. YOU are foundational to the essence of WCFE.
"Enjoy your retirement and new projects. Thanks a million for everything you did for us!” wrote WCFE.
