Across Ireland there are around 600 less frontline Gardaí compared to Covid peaks 

Latest staffing numbers from An Garda Síochána show there are now seven fewer frontline Gardaí working in Waterford City compared to the end of 2024.

The 194 Gardaí recorded working in the Waterford Garda Station on Patrick Street as of December 2025 represents a 3.5% drop in staffing numbers compared to December 2024.

The most recent figures show 159 Gardaí, 25 sergeants, 8 inspectors, 1 superintendent and 1 chief superintendent stationed in Waterford City.

In December 2024, there were eight more regular Gardaí stationed in Waterford City and one less sergeant.

Dungarvan lost two gardaí, while Tramore gained four. Ferrybank more than doubled its staffing numbers, going from four to ten in the space of a year.

Waterford’s Command & Control Centre- in which centres cater to the region’s 999 calls- lost one gardaí and total number of staff sits at 32.
