Two young brothers from County Waterford achieved a remarkable feat recently when the completed a challenging swim across Tramore Bay.

The achievement of the Swift brothers, Art (9) and Deici (11), was remarkable for a number of reasons.

In addition to being a major milestone for them personally it was also a very proud moment for their family and the local swimming community in Tramore - of which their family is a big part.

The boys were closely supported throughout their journey by their father, Jim Swift, and their grandfather, who accompanied them in kayaks to ensure their safety as they tackled the open water.

Swimming is a tradition in the Swift family however, as the brothers' dad, Jim, is no stranger to extraordinary feats in the water himself.

He previously swam the English Channel - one of the world’s most gruelling long-distance swims and he also achieved the impressive feat of circumnavigating Ireland on a paddleboard over a 30-day expedition.

The remarkable achievement was noted on the Tramore Official Facebook page where it was also pointed out that Deici Swift, at 11 years of age, held the record for the youngest swimmer to cross the bay until his younger brother completed the feat a couple of minutes later, when they reached the Guillamene.

The started their swim from Brownstown Head at noon.

Deici took one hour and 21 minutes to cross while Art did it in one hour and 31 minutes.
