WATCH: Waterford schools participate in 'One Book, One Community' initiative
The 'One Book, One Community' initiative was very popular.
Students and parents from 14 local DEIS schools across County Waterford embraced a shared love of reading earlier this year through the 'One Book, One Community' project, led by Home School Community Liaison (HSCL) coordinators.
The inspiring initiative brought schools together to foster a sense of community through the joy of storytelling.
The project was launched at the end of last year and the book, 'Kelda', by Dungarvan author Dolores Lyons, was distributed to 6th class, national school, and First Year secondary school students in participating schools.

'Kelda' is a thrilling tale of a courageous Viking girl who leaves Norway to embark on a new life in Ireland.
At the beginning of the year First Year students at Presentation Secondary School received their copies of the book marking a significant milestone in this collaborative project.
A dedicated One Book committee, composed of parents and HSCL coordinators, selected the book, secured funding, and developed activities and resources to support its themes, ensuring a community-wide focus on literacy and learning.
A spokesperson for the school said the initiative was not just about reading and said it was also about uniting schools, parents, and students in a shared experience.
"The hope is that Kelda will spark meaningful discussions and inspire a deeper love of reading among young people in the community," she said.
The One Book, One Community project exemplified the power of collaboration and highlights the role of schools in creating meaningful connections within local communities.
