There was a colourful display of classic and more modern scooters in Waterford City recently when the local Kickstart Scooter Club held a showcase event.
The initiative is an annual event on the club's social calendar and while the members do participate in charitable run outs during the year the purpose of the recent event was just to get together in a relaxed setting and showcase the exquisite machines in all their glory.

Speaking to Waterford News & Star about the event club member, Shane Breen said it was a great success and attracted people from outside of Waterford.
He also acknowledged the support the event receives from Chingon Badass Burritos, based in O'Connell Street, Waterford, who sponsored prizes for the event.

"We handed out 10 prizes and they sponsor it so we're grateful for that support," said Shane. The event was held on Sunday, September 1, and coincided with the final date of Waterford's Summer In The City' initiative.
"It's just a showcase event really where people can show what they have and it attracts a lot of people," said Shane.

In addition to members of the club and other scooter owners from County Waterford the event also drew people from places like Kildare, Kilkenny and Cork.

There are 18 members in the club at present and the scooters range in size from 50cc to 300cc and while some of the machines are modern some also date back to the 1960s.

Shane has been collecting scooters for over 40 years and he said there is a great amount of interest in such machines in Waterford and that it's growing in popularity.

He said it was a great way to round off the 'Summer in the City' initiative and the fact the weather was fine on the day added to the event.
