Residents in the Ferrybank area of Waterford City have expressed concern over a spate of fires that have necessitated repeat call-outs from the fire service.

In an online post members of the Ferrybank Community Newsletter noted that in recent days a fire had to be put out in an area close to local business premises and there are calls for something to be done to prevent it happening before someone is seriously injured or worse.

One resident who commented on the matter to Waterford News & Star said: "Here in Ferrybank we've had a spate of fires over the past few years now."

There are also concerns over public safety in the run up to Halloween and the public should also note that bonfires are illegal in Ireland.
